INTRODUCTION

The International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB) is the official conference of the Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet). Since the inaugural Bangkok conference in 2002, InCoB developed into one of the largest bioinformatics conference in the Asia-Pacific region. Last year's conference in Singpaore attracted nearly 450 attendees (including satellite meetings), coming from 19 countries. InCoB annual conferences showcase the latest research and technologies in all areas of bioinformatics and is attended by practitioners from both biology and computing backgrounds in the Asia-Pacific region.

InCoB2010 will be held at Waseda University International Conference Center, Tokyo, and is organized in collaboration with Chem-Bio Informatics Society (CBI), International Immunomics Society (IIMMS), and supported by Japanese Society for Bioinformatics (JSBi). On Sep 28, CBI will held CBI Workshop on Synthetic Biology, Molecular Robotics and Translational Bioinformatics and IIMMS will have its 3rd Conference of Basic and Clinical Immunogenomics and Immunomics (BCII).

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of APBioNet, a network of people associated with the advancement of bioinformatics in the Asia-Pacific region for the past 12 years since its inception in 1998, is held within the InCoB conference annually. Key strategic initiatives to promote the bioinformatics revolution in our life science research and educational community are discussed at the AGM.

In keeping with the increasing quality of the conference, InCoB2010 will continue to publish the best papers presented in the conference tracks in BMC Genomics (Impact Factor 3.76), BMC Bioinformatics (Impact Factor 3.43) or Bioinformation and for the first time in the journals, Immunome Research (unofficial Impact Factor 5.33) and IPSJ Transactions on Bioinformatics.
